Mapping Ancient Greece (Day 2)

Ancient Greece Map Project  Today is your last class day to work on your map of Ancient Greece. You can still find directions for the assignment here.  If you need one, a blank outline map of Ancient Greece is here (please make a copy and put directly into your name folder within your Social Studies folder). If you are confused, a partially completed sample map assignment is here. For reference, a collection of maps of Ancient Greece from the British Museum can be found here. Deadline: Your map must be completed and turned in to your name folder within your Social Studies folder before the start of the class on Friday, May 2.  

Mapping Ancient Greece

Ancient Greece Map Project  Greek civilization developed on dry, rocky lands surrounded by water. Most of Greece consists of a large peninsula, however the seas surrounding Greece also contain hundreds of small islands. Ancient Greece's unique geography made it a crossroads for travelers and traders who exchanged goods, ideas, and customs. Today you will have the opportunity to make a detailed map of Ancient Greece, featuring important regions, cities, bodies of water, islands, and other land forms.  You can find directions for the assignment here.  A blank outline of map of Ancient Greece is here (please make a copy and put directly into your name folder within your Social Studies folder). Warm Up: The British Museum Website Exploration and Padlet Observations Continue to familiarize yourself with the Geography of Ancient Greece by exploring The British Museum's website here. If you haven't already, read the introduction, follow the story of Odysseus' travels to many fantastic lands, explore maps of Ancient Greece, and finally investigate an Ancient Greek shipwreck. Also, make sure to closely study the image above. Next, head on over to Padlet and share some your observations about Greek geography and/or culture on our digital community wall. 3rd period, you can find your Padlet wall here. 6th period, your Padlet wall is here.  

EDpuzzle: Geography and Early Greece  Today you are going to interact with an EDpuzzle video about Ancient Greek geography and history. Please take out your headphones, login to EDpuzzle, and locate the video "Geography and Early Greece." Watch the video carefully and answer the questions along the way to the best of your ability. You will be graded on the quality and completeness of your responses. If you don't finish in class, please finish for homework.

Introduction to the Geography of Ancient Greece  The geography of Ancient Greece is unlike that of any other civilization we have studied this year. Familiarize yourself with the Geography of Ancient Greece by exploring The British Museum's website here. Read the introduction, follow the story of Odysseus' travels to many fantastic lands, explore maps of Ancient Greece, and finally investigate an Ancient Greek shipwreck. If you do not get to fully explore the site in class today, please do so outside of class. Tomorrow we will have a quiz testing what you learned from the site.

Ancient China Movie Festival  Today is the world premiere of Mr. McGinty's Social Studies students' Ancient China videos. Please make sure your video is published and in your name folder within your Social Studies folder and ready for showtime. While your watching each video, please provide the video's creator with positive feedback using the form here.  

Ancient China: Finishing Touches

Warm Up: Silent Reading and Digital Reading Log  Please take out your A.R. book and began silent reading. When you hear the alarm, you may open your Chromebook and make a reading entry using our digital reading log here.   

Digital China Video: Finishing Touches Today is your last chance to put the finishing touches on your video in class. Check the order of your images, make sure your text is just right, and review your music and theme. Once you're satisfied with the your video you are ready to publish. Click "Publish" towards the top of the screen.  Make sure both WeVideo and Google Drive are selected as destinations to "Upload to." Before you click "Publish video" your screen should look like this: 

Your video will then take several minutes to publish. After your video publishes to your Google Drive, move it to your name folder within your Social Studies folder so you can it be graded. Final Deadline: Before the start of class, tomorrow, April 23.  

BrainPOP: Great Wall of China If you are finished with your Ancient China Video, you may do a BrainPOP activity on the Great Wall of China.  From you Google Drive, select the BrainPOP App.  

Once you've launched the BrainPOP App, search for "Great Wall of China."

Watch the movie and then do one of the quizzes or activities. After completion you can send your quiz or activity to me for credit using my email:  matthew_mcginty@pvusd.net
